Charlotte FC hosted the first of a season-long series of Piing Pen Kick games at their league fixture against New York City on Friday, bringing crowd gaming to the MLS for the first time.
The big screen half-time soccer showdown marked the first of 17 fixtures that will feature Piing, and was brought to the fans at the Charlotte FC’s home opener by founding partners Ally in collaboration with MKTG.
Players were split into Charlotte Home v Charlotte Away teams and in total the games were played by 4,700 fans, with 15,000 penalties taken in under four minutes. Charlotte Away took the win, two rounds to one.
“It was amazing to see fans engage so enthusiastically with a branded half-time activation. The crowd reactions were brilliant and there was such a fun atmosphere while playing” said David Kemp from MKTG.
Piing will be back at Charlotte FC for another round of Pen Kick when the team lines up against Columbus on March 23.
